I promised I will talk about how I lately dyed my Hair with the plant Henna. As I was a teenager I knew about Henna only reading on the chemical dyes boxes things like : "not recommended if the hair are dyed with henna" so I was thinking: "why the hell would someone want to use this weird thing called Henna then??"
Leaving in Germany in a very multicultural city gave me the opportunity to meet and make friends from all over the world, so I came in contact with women from Tunisia or Iran. Even they don´t use that much Henna for hair anymore and I can understand why, the result are not the same as the chemical dyes, the latter have obviously a more beautiful result.
But what are you doing when your hair is really damaged or became less and less and you don´t want to lose it ?
Then yes you can try henna although it has many limitations.
Actually one uses plant henna for reddish-brown or plant indigo (indigofera) for black (or both).
PROS:
-The hair looks healthy afterwards, henna is also a treatment and makes hair look a little thicker
-The hair is not damaged.
-The smell is usually for some a CON but I love the smell of henna, either you love it or you hate it.
-You can use this dye how many times you want.
CONS:
-You will not get strong colours, rather tints
-The process is somehow complicated, sometimes a real art if you don´t buy an already mixed dye
-You can normally dye your hair with chemical dyes after that, it is just that the chemical dye will last less and the red tint of henna will eventually come out
-You cannot have blonde with henna
-For black hair the indigo plant does not last long from my experience, comparing with the red one.
HOW YOU DO IT:
Basically you buy a powder, put it in a boil and mix it with hot water.
But:
-that depends on the colour you want to achieve. For black and dark colours I recommend henna red and after two or three days indigo (if you have more white hair is better using this version) or just buy an already mixed dye like Khadi , it has inside henna red, indigo and amla powder. I like this dye Khadi, from my experience is good. Use the paste right away. Use black tea or coffee instead of water.
-if you want reddish-brown hair use the normal henna (red). Put lemon juice in henna. Let henna stay overnight in a dark place and use it the next day. If you rather want red hair than brown use rooibos tea insead of water.
P:S: Don´t blame me if you don´t like it, the choice is yours :-)
